Bombay HC Acts on Its Own, Stays Bail of Shiv Sena Corporator Accused of Assaulting Doctors

The Bombay High Court took suo motu cognisance of a Thane bail order and stayed it, calling the lower court's decision "perverse" for ignoring the accused's criminal history. Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre, accused of assaulting doctors and nurses at a Dombivli hospital, has been directed to surrender by Sunday evening, with the matter listed for further hearing on July 21.

The ruling comes amid allegations that West Bengal used SIR-based deletions to cut people off from food security schemes, women's welfare support, and caste certificates — pushing the Election Commission and state government to respond before the Court.
